Why Should Kids Vote?

Research shows that youth who experience elections before they turn 18, are 40% more likely to vote as adults. By giving youth an authentic, hands-on voting experience, Kids Voting Durham develops youth’s voting skills and sense of identity as voter for the future.

HOW VOTING WORKS

  • KIDS LEARN ABOUT ELECTIONS, CANDIDATES, & ISSUES

    Through classroom lessons on evaluating candidates & elections, a youth-friendly Election Guide with information on offices to be elected & candidates, and family activities, Kids Voting Durham has learning opportunities that are just right for kids from preschool to high school (and even for adults!)

  • YOUNG PEOPLE CAST THEIR BALLOTS

    In each election, Kids Voting Durham offers all youth under 18 the opportunity to voice their vote on the same candidates and issues as adults in their schools, online, and at sites around the Durham community.

  • KIDS VOTING RESULTS ARE ANNOUNCED

    The day after elections, thanks to the generous support of Measurement, Inc, kids can see the results of their votes, and Kids Voting Durham shares them with their schools, the candidates who ran and the Durham community.
