Ever wonder what Durham would be like if youth under 18 had a voice? Ever wonder how much more engaging and interesting a Candidate Forum could be if it were run entirely by young people themselves? If Durham’s Board of Education candidates knew what issues are most important to youth in Durham?
Come to the all youth-led Kids Voting Durham Youth Candidate Forum on Wednesday, February 11 from 6-8:30 pm at Durham School of the Arts, meet the candidates who want to be Durham’s Board of Education, and find out how fun and interesting a candidate forum can actually be! In addition to the Candidates for Board of Education, there will be food & prize drawings for gift cards from local businesses!
All are welcome at this Forum, but only youth get to ask questions and interact with the candidates.
FORUM SCHEDULE
6:00-6:45 pm: Youth arrive and eat dinner while they talk in small, youth-led groups to review the Kids Voting Election Guide, talk about what the Board of Education does and what issues are most important to youth, and brainstorm questions to ask the Candidates.
6:45-8:15 pm: Candidates round-robin in sets of two between small youth groups to answer their questions and hear their perspectives and ideas on the issues that most impact youth in Durham.
8:15-8:30 pm: Candidates make closing statements and commitments to youth in Durham
