DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  • How did it feel to vote? Was it hard to decide who to vote for?

  • How did the Kids Voting Durham results differ from the adult results? Why do you think they were the same or different? Do you think there were any issues or candidate characteristics that were more important to youth than to adults?

  • How did your school’s results differ from other Durham schools? Why do you think they were the same or different?

  • If the kids’ results had been counted in the election, would the results for Durham have been different or the same? Spoiler alert: The results in at least one race would have been different this year if kids had the right to vote. (Tip: you need to do some math. Add together the kids’ and adult results and see what that result was and if it differed.)

  • How many/what percentage of Durham’s kids turned out to vote? How many adults? Why do you think those who didn’t vote didn’t show up? (Tip: use the 38.000 estimated number of school age children in Durham as the number of eligible youth voters.)
