First Time Voter: Audrey Luben

This is the first in a series of voter profiles of Kids Voting youth leaders who are casting their first adult vote in the 2023 Mayor & City Council Elections. Check often at kidsvotingdurham.org/blog-1 for new voter profiles throughout this election season!

What’s one thing you are excited about for your first vote? After working with KVD for 2 years and being involved in the Durham elections it feels so special to actually be a part of the election and get to vote.

How has your experience with Kids Voting Durham prepared you for your first vote? If I had not been a part of KVD I would have no idea where to go to know how to request my ballot, how to cast my ballot, or even how important it is to vote in this election; I may have just ignored it.

What issues are most important to you this election? Affordable Housing, Gun Violence, Food Security

What characteristics do you most value in a candidate? Honesty, Determination, Community Engagement

KVD Program Coordinator Carolyn Kreuger adds: “Audrey has been so fundamental these last years to creating KVD tools that help others cast their first vote — like the amazing guided voting plan tool that is part of our First Time Voter resources — and it is so gratifying to see her cast her first adult vote! I know Durham will be the better for it now that her vote helps us determine who will be our Mayor and on our City Council.”
