Volunteer
Kids Voting Durham provides hands-on civic engagement and authentic voting experience to thousands of Durham K-12 students each year thanks to the support of community partners and hundreds of volunteers. You can be part of Kids Voting too – there are many ways to get involved!
INSPIRE A NEW GENERATION OF VOTERS
A few hours of your time can translate into a lifetime of civic engagement and informed voting for a young person. Volunteering with Kids Voting is easy, fun, and rewarding. Most Kids Voting volunteer opportunities are youth and family-friends and provide student service hours, group team building, and other benefits.
Be a Kids Voting site leader on Election Day. As a Kids Voting site leader, just choose one of Durham’s precincts (or let Kids Voting help you choose one) and line up enough volunteers to run the site from 2:30-7:30 PM and set up the site the evening before. Kids Voting provides you with all the training and materials for your site so you can help Durham’s K-12 students cast their ballot on the same candidates and issues as adults. Youth 16 and older can run a site on their own and earn service hours, and KVD is one of the few volunteer opportunities families can do with all ages of children! Running a site can be a great team building activity for a work or youth group as well. You can see a list of precincts that need volunteers here
Volunteer for a shift at a voting site, at an event, or with a Kids Voting project. Have just a few hours to spare? Volunteer to serve a 2-4 hour shift at a Durham precinct on Election Day or at an Early Voting site on Saturdays, or at a Kids Voting event such as the Youth Candidate Forum or Early Voting Celebration.
Kids Voting also has year-round and one-time volunteer opportunities in everything from office work to student projects on democracy and government. Do you have skills & experience in graphic design, video editing, or education? Want to write for our blog or help develop civic engagement resources and lesson? Kids Voting can use your energy and talents! SEE A CURRENT LIST OF VOLUNTEER NEEDS HERE.
Join the Kids Voting Durham Advisory Board. Kids Voting Durham’s Advisory Board consists of 10-12 engaged Durham community members who help with outreach, planning, and community education.
Bring Kids Voting Durham to your school, youth organization, or family! Kids Voting Durham will provide the training, ballots, lesson plans, and other materials needed for you to give an authentic election experience to your public, charter, private or home school free of cost. Students learn how to inform themselves for elections and feel the pride of making their voice heard. For more information go to the Current Elections page. Kids Voting also offers resources and material for families to discuss and participate in elections and talk about democracy and engaged citizenship in meaningful ways no matter what age your children.
