KVD Board and Staff

Kids Voting Durham’s Advisory Board is composed of members of the Durham Community including those who work in education, community development, and youth engagement. The KVD board provides the strategic direction of our programs as well as much of the volunteer support to carry them out! Laura Biediger

Laura is a Community Engagement Strategist with the City of Durham. She created and manages the City’s Neighborhood Matching Grant program and co-authored the City's Equitable Community Engagement Blueprint.

Dr. D. Kelvin Bullock

Dr. Daniel Kelvin Bullock is the Executive Director for Equity Affairs for Durham Public Schools. In this role, he specializes in identifying and reducing inequities that exist in students' educational experiences.

Shirley Garrett

Shirley is a rising senior at High Point University, studying Political Science, International Relations, and Spanish. She began volunteering with Kids Voting Durham in high school and is now the summer intern coordinator at KVD.

Lilian Grosshans

Lily is a rising junior at Riverside High School and works as a summer intern at Kids Voting Durham as well as at Duke Payne Lab at the MEMS Pratt School of Engineering.

Andrew Holland

Andrew is the Budget Engagement Manager and oversees Participatory Budgeting (PB Durham). He is also responsible for overseeing the outreach and community engagement as it relates to educating residents about the city’s budget.

Carolyn Kreuger

Carolyn, our Program Director, has led Kids Voting Durham for over a decade. She loves Durham, working with youth, and local government.

DeWarren K. Langly

DeWarren is the founder of the Charlies Hamilton Houston Foundation and has been a Durham activist engaged in City and County Government since his teens. DeWarren has served with the board since 2006 and himself been a candidate for school board.

Kim Oberle

Kim manages the Outdoor Recreation and City Lakes unit, taking care of Durham's reservoirs and helping Durhamites engage with nature.

Pam Oxedine

Pam is member of the Durham County Board of Election and works as a Counseling Program Asst. NC School of Science & Math. She enjoys working with youth and also an Etiquette Trainer with contracts with Forsyth Tech, Duke Summer Program and Empower Dance.

Cimarron Reed

Cimarron serves as a Recreational Specialist for Durham Parks and Recreation. He serves youth ages 13 - 18 at the Durham Teen Center.

Angie Schiavone

Angie works as Latino Outreach Specialist at Durham Cooperative Extension (DCE) implementing parent & family advocacy and support programs with Spanish speaking parents in the area of education. As Latino Outreach Specialist Angie also works to increase the capacity of DCE to work with the Latino community in Durham.

Kelly Stevens

Kelly serves teachers in grades K-12 with Social Studies curriculum & instruction. Kelly works with Kids Voting Durham to develop curriculum materials that are leveled by grade bands to aide teachers, and voting materials to engage students in a process that will encourage them to be life-long contributors to their local, state, and national communities.

Christa Twyford Gibson

Christa coordinates community outreach for the Durham County Cooperative Extension, collaborating with schools, parents, community organizations, and other parts of government to improve quality of life for all Durham County residents.
