2019 Elections: Student Service Opportunities

Kids Voting 2019 Mayor and City Council elections have many opportunities for youth of all ages to participate in elections, earn service hours, and gain leadership experience and training — and have fun in the process! Contact Kids Voting Durham, info@kidsvotingdurham.org, 919.560.7321 or use the form at right for more information or to sign up.

8+ service hours, 10 openings, includes 2 hour training from 6-8 pm on October 15 and Candidate Forum from 6 pm-9 pm on October 24. Get leadership experience and help other youth connect with candidates and decision-makers by serving as a small group moderator at the KVD Forum, the only youth-led Candidate Forum in Durham.  Youth leaders will receive certification in facilitation after 2 hour training plus online learning.   Contact Carolyn Kreuger, info@kidsvotingdurham.org or 919.560.7321 to sign up or ask questions!

5-10 hours total, 40 openings, Precincts around Durham on Election Day for Early Voting pm at North, East, or South Regional Library.  Precinct leaders coordinated and recruit volunteers for their site to assist K-12 students who come to the polls in casting a vote in the current election.  This is a great activity for a group or club!  Just choose one of Durham’s precincts (or let Kids Voting help you choose one) and line up enough volunteers to run the site after school until 7:30 PM or on weekend early voting. Kids Voting provides you with all the training and materials for your site so you can help Durham’s K-12 students cast their ballot on the same candidates and issues as adults. Youth 16 and older can run a site on their own and earn service hours, and younger youth can volunteer with an parent or other adult.  KVD is one of the few volunteer opportunities families can do with all ages of children!

Bring Kids Voting to You!

Host pop-up voting at a site and during a time of your choice!  Run the site at a organization, public locatton or business that other youth visit.  Kids Voting will help you coordinate with the site of your choice and give you materials to advertise your Kids Voting along with materials and training.  More information about running a pop-up site is here
