Voting - Early and Often!

Kids Voting offers Durham students the opportunity to vote on the same candidates and issues as adults annually at precincts and schools across Durham on Election Day.  The results of Kids Voting is reported in newspaper and other media just like the adult voting results.

student quoteWhy should kids vote?  First, they learn an appreciation & understanding of voting and get in the habit –the lifelong habit – of voting.

Even more, when kids get excited about voting and going to the polls, they get their parents excited about it as well.  In communities where kids vote, adult turnout has been shown to rise by 3-10%.

In the U.S., where less than 50% of 18-24 year olds are even registered to vote and less the half of all citizens vote, Kids Voting serves as a critical avenue for engaging both future and current voters and active citizens.

Durham County schools and PTAs that are interested in having Kids Voting polls in their schools for the 2008 Election can contact us or call Carolyn Kreuger at 560-7321.  Kids Voting will provide participating schools with the materials (ballots, booths, etc.) and training on how to run a successful voting site & to prepare students for elections.
