KIDS VOTING DURHAM 2019

2019 is well underway, and Kids Voting Durham has an exciting year full of Durham-themed civic activities for youth, schools, and families planned!  We hope you will join us.

2019 promises two big Durham events:  Durham’s 150th Anniversary and our biannual Mayor & City Council Elections KVD is ready to help you engage with events and other civic opportunities!

 YOUTH SURVEY ON DURHAM

Durham wants to know what issues are important to youth, what they like about Durham, and what they want to change.  The survey results will be used to inform City decision-makers and the KVD youth candidate guide and forum and will be available publically.  The survey will open March 15-the end of May and is open to all Durham youth 18 and under.  You can find the survey on the KVD website.

YOUTH CANDIDATE GUIDE & FORUM

Students, come help create the best and most used Candidate Guide in Durham!  There will be two candidate guide sessions for students at the Durham County Cooperative Extension:  Saturday, May 18 from 9-11 am & Friday, June 14, from 1-4 pm.  Students will identify issues that are important to Durham youth, create questionnaires for Durham Mayor & City Council candidates, and compile information on voting & City Government.  No preparation needed, and all are welcome!  Contact info@kidsvotingdurham.org or 919.560.7321 for more information.

KVD’s Youth Candidate Forum is an all-youth-led evening where students get to quiz the candidates for Mayor & City Council about issues that are important to them.  Students can sign up to serve as moderators through our Volunteer link and will receive facilitation and issue training from Kids Voting Durham as well as earn service hours. The  KVD Youth Candidate Forum is currently scheduled for Thursday, October 24, at a school location to be announced.  Check kidsvotingdurham.org  for updates!

DURHAM MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Durham’s Mayor & City Council Elections to choose our local government will be exciting and engaging.  As every election year, Kids Voting will offer K-12 youth the opportunity to vote on the same candidates and issues as adults in their schools, at local precincts, and online.  Students, families, and youth groups can help run polling sites, and educators can sign up for voting and other cost-free election resources.

ALL YEAR LONG

Kids Voting Durham will have opportunities and events all year-round – not just during Elections!

Take part by:

Kids Voting encourages local businesses to take part in our work by sponsoring one of our events with catering donations and financial support; donating in-kind items for recognitions for student leaders, volunteers, and educators.  Kids Voting also needs sponsors for KVD t-shirts & yard signs and well as individual donors to support our work and ensure we reach as many Durham youth as possible.  Contact carolyn@kidsvotingdurham.org for more information on donation and sponsorship opportunities.

  • Using Kids Voting lessons and activities for K-12 classrooms and families.

Classroom and non-traditional educators can sign up for Kids Voting election opportunities and resources here.  KVD is available free-of-cost to all Durham schools, homeschoolers, and youth and non-profit groups.
